Liverpool achieved the largest Europa League aggregate victory by an English club with their commanding 11-2 win over Sparta Prague.

Jurgen Klopp's decision to field a strong starting lineup for the second leg, despite Liverpool already leading 5-1 from the initial encounter, caught many fans by surprise. Liverpool went on to win the second leg 6-1. The Reds led 4-0 after 15 minutes.

With Liverpool’s record win for an English club, it isn’t the biggest win for a club in terms of aggregate score.

So, where does Liverpool’s 11-2 aggregate win over Sparta Prague stand in the Europa League’s history?

5. FC Porto 10-3 Spartak Moscow – 2010-11

Over a decade ago, FC Porto smashed past Russia’s Spartak Moscow by an aggregate score of 10-3. The Portuguese club went on to lift the Europa League trophy, with a victory over fellow countrymen Braga in the final, 1-0.

4. Chelsea 8-0 Dynamo Kiev – 2018-19

Chelsea’s 8-0 aggregate win came in the round of 16 against Dynamo. The Blues went on to win the Europa League that season, defeating Arsenal 4-1 in the final.

3. Liverpool 11-2 Sparta Prague – 2023-24

As it stands, Liverpool are still on track to win four trophies this season. Jurgen Klopp’s side has already won the Carabao Cup. .

2. Lyon 11-2 AZ Alkmaar – 2016-17

Lyon and AZ Alkmaar met in the 2016-17 Europa League round of 32. The French club won both legs easily, posting an aggregate score of 11-2. Lyon went all the way to the semifinals that season before losing to Ajax 5-4 on aggregate.

1. Valencia 10-0 Rapid Vienna – 2015-16

Valencia holds the record for the largest aggregate win in Europa League history thanks to a 10-0 thumping of Austria’s Rapid Vienna. The clubs met in the Europa League round of 32.

Despite the big victory, Valencia were knocked out of the competition a round later by fellow Spanish club Athletic Bilbao.

Posting a large aggregate scoreline victory in the Europa League knockout stages doesn’t equate to winning the tournament’s trophy.

However, two teams featured in the top five went on to win the Europa League. With Liverpool claiming an 11-2 victory over Sparta Prague this season, could Klopp’s Reds go all the way to the trophy?

Liverpool are the favourite to win the Europa League this season. It would be the perfect send-off for Klopp. However, just because they defeated Sparta 11-2 doesn’t mean they will lift the trophy.
