Analysing the Premier League Relegation Battle: Who Will Go Down?

Gameweek 24 of the 2023-24 Premier League season is just around the corner. With roughly a third of the campaign remaining, Forebet takes a look at the relegation candidates ahead of the run-in.

The bottom two teams appear to be cut adrift, but the next four sides are separated by just three points. Consequently, we could be set for one of the most gripping relegation battles in recent history.

20th. Sheffield United (10 Points) – W2-D4-L17

It would not be unfair to say that most Premier League fans expect Sheffield United to be relegated. Having won just two of their 23 matches, the basement dwellers find themselves three points adrift and 10 points from safety. Plus, the Blades have the worst offensive record and the worst defensive record.

19th. Burnley (13 Points) – W3-D4-L16

Despite dominating the Championship last season, Burnley have struggled to readjust to life in the Premier League. With a record of one win, two draws and eight losses at Turf Moor, Vincent Kompany’s men will need to improve their home record if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.

18th. Everton (19 Points) – W8-D5-L10

If it weren’t for a 10-point deduction, Everton would be 12th in the table and nine points clear of the relegation zone. However, they currently find themselves one point inside the drop zone. The Toffees chalked up four straight victories in December, but they have since taken three points from a possible 18.

17th. Luton Town (20 Points) – W5-D5-L12

Following a fairy tale last season, many believed that Luton Town would finish rock bottom of the Premier League table this term. The Hatters made a shaky start to the campaign, but a run of three wins, two draws and one defeat in their last six matches has seen them climb out of the relegation zone.

16th. Nottingham Forest (21 Points) – W5-D6-L12

Nottingham Forest sacked manager Steve Cooper in December, replacing him with former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo. Although Forest picked up back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Manchester United after Nuno’s arrival, they still sit just two points clear of the drop zone.

15th. Brentford (22 Points) – W6-D4-L12

There is no hiding the fact that Brentford struggled without talisman Ivan Toney, who recently returned from an eight-month gambling ban. Toney may be back in action, but the Bees remain three points outside the relegation zone, meaning their safety is far from secured at this stage.
