Who Could Be the Next Manager of Liverpool?

Jurgen Klopp's shock announcement that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season was met with huge disappointment by fans of the club.

It is completely understandable given the success the German has brought the club since his arrival at Anfield in 2015.

Klopp won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019  and added the Premier League title in 2020. It was the first time Liverpool had won the league title in 30 years, which underlines what a fantastic job Klopp has done at Anfield.

At the time of writing, Klopp has managed 466 games for Liverpool, winning 284 of those matches, giving him a winning record of over 60%. Only Manchester City have recorded more points in the Premier League than Liverpool during Klopp’s reign at the club.

Liverpool enjoyed 18 consecutive victories between October 2019 and February 2020 under the guidance of Klopp and could easily win more trophies this season, including the Premier League title.

It is little wonder so many rival fans were celebrating the news of Klopp’s departure.

Every successful period for a football club comes to an end at some point and Liverpool fans will be hoping this is not that point for their club. The next managerial appointment at Liverpool is going to be massive but who is in the frame for the job?

Xabi Alonso is the name of the lips of most Liverpool fans. The former central midfielder spent five successful years at Liverpool, winning the Champions League and the FA Cup. Alonso is currently managing Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and he is doing a tremendous job.

At the time of writing, Bayer Leverkusen are undefeated this season in all competitions, which is remarkable, and they sit top of the Bundesliga.

This is the first managerial job for Alonso, and that fact must be considered when making the next appointment for Liverpool. Can the Spaniard transfer his style from the Bundesliga to the Premier League?

Another leading candidate to be the next manager of Liverpool is Roberto de Zerbi. He is already managing in the Premier League at Brighton and has received many plaudits for his style of football.

The Italian led Brighton to wins over Liverpool in the Premier League and FA Cup last season and guided Brighton to sixth place in the league.

Some of the other names mentioned for the Liverpool job include Luis Enrique currently with Paris Saint-Germain, Steven Gerrard, currently with Al-Ettifaq, Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of the German national team, and Ange Postecoglou of Tottenham Hotspur.

There is no doubt who the Liverpool fans want to take over the managerial position next season but will Alonso want to take on such a big job so early in his career?

Taking over from Klopp is going to be a near-impossible task and some managers may not want to risk their reputation on a job that is going to be extremely tough.
