Manchester United – Premier League Preview (2023-24)
1518

Erik ten Hag enjoyed a promising debut season at Old Trafford, guiding Manchester United to third in the Premier League while winning the EFL Cup.

In 2023-24, the Dutch manager will be expected to take the Red Devils to the next level.

Manager: Erik ten Hag

Stadium: Old Trafford

Last Season: 3rd

For the first time since Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013, Manchester United appear to be heading in the right direction – on the pitch, at least.

Ten Hag has given his team an identity, and the Old Trafford faithful expect more of the same this year.

What Happened Last Season?

The Red Devils won 23 of their 38 Premier League games last term, finishing third as a result.

Granted, United finished nine points behind second-placed Arsenal, but they also finished eight points inside the Champions League spots.

Man Utd also reached the final of both the EFL Cup and FA Cup last season, winning the former before losing the latter.

After defeating Newcastle United 2-0 in the EFL Cup final, Ten Hag’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup showpiece.

New players like Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Antony helped United improve on their sixth-place finish in 2021-22.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag cemented his status as one of the most intelligent managers in the Premier League.

Key Players

Manchester United have made a number of big-name signings this summer, bringing in Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

On top of that, Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund is on the verge of joining the club.

Marcus Rashford enjoyed a hugely successful 2022-23 campaign on a personal level, notching 30 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes chalked up 14 goals and 15 assists last term.

That said, Casemiro could prove to be United’s most important player in 2023-24.

The experienced midfielder secured five Champions League triumphs and three La Liga titles with Real Madrid, underlining his know-how.

What Can Manchester United Achieve in 2023-24?

Manchester United will aim to close the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal in 2023-24.

With Onana, Mount and Hojlund providing more options, the Red Devils look set to continue their upward trajectory under Ten Hag.

United will also be looking to make their mark on the Champions League after failing to qualify for the previous edition of the tournament.

Following last season’s final appearances, Ten Hag will be hoping for more cup success.
