1260

The 2022/23 English Premier League season is on the horizon. Accordingly, it’s time to look ahead to the new campaign and chew over all the major topics.

In this preview, we cover the title race, the battle for Europe and what to expect from the newly-promoted teams. We also profile all the top new signings to keep an eye on in 2022/23.

Let’s start with the title favourites and work our way through the rest.

Who Are the 2022/23 Premier League Title Favourites?

Having won each of the last two titles – and four of the previous five – Manchester City will be the team to bet in 2022/23. Pep Guardiola’s side amassed 93 points last term, losing just three of their 38 games.

That said, Liverpool finished a solitary point behind Man City last season. After securing the silverware in 2019/20, Jurgen Klopp’s men will no doubt be eager to reclaim the Premier League crown. Can they outperform their new-found rivals?

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are viewed as Man City and Liverpool’s nearest challengers. The Blues won the 2016/17 title under Antonio Conte, who is the now the manager of Tottenham.

Which Teams Are Expected to Challenge for European Football?

Man City and Liverpool look set to battle it out for the title, while Chelsea and Spurs are expected to remain in the mix. But there are plenty of other clubs in the European football conversation.

Manchester United and Arsenal are likely to push for European football, while Newcastle United, Leicester City, West Ham United and Aston Villa are also tipped to challenge for a top-seven finish.

How Will the Newly-Promoted Teams Fare?

Led by the unstoppable Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham won the Championship title last season – scoring a whopping 106 goals in the process. Bournemouth claimed the other automatic promotion spot, while Nottingham Forest came through the play-offs.

This will be Fulham’s third top-flight campaign in five seasons after suffering relegation on two occasions in recent years. Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League in 2019/20, so it is difficult to predict how they will fare.

As for Forest, they are back in the Premier League for the first time since 1998/99. The two-time European Cup winners have a rich history, but they could struggle during their comeback campaign.

Who Are the New Premier League Signings to Watch?

Both Man City and Liverpool have acquired a new striker, signing Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez, respectively. Gabriel Jesus has left Man City for Arsenal, while Raheem Sterling has swapped the Etihad for Chelsea.

Elsewhere, the Blues have signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. Aston Villa and Newcastle have also signed high-profile centre-backs, securing the services of Diego Carlos and Sven Botman, respectively.
