With question marks still lingering over the future of star man Harry Kane, new Tottenham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has his work cut out in North London.
- Manager: Nuno Espirito Santo
- Stadium: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
- Last Season: 7th
Although we are just days away from the start of the new Premier League season, it feels as though there is huge uncertainty at Spurs.
Will Kane leave? Can Nuno get off to a good start? What do the new signings add to the squad? Before we answer those questions, let’s remind ourselves of what happened last term.
• What Happened Last Season?
Ultimately, Jose Mourinho failed to get Tottenham back in the Champions League. The legendary Portuguese manager was fired before the end of campaign, leaving Ryan Mason to pick up the pieces.
Spurs did manager to reach the EFL Cup final, though. But they were eventually beaten by Manchester City at Wembley.
In the end, Tottenham finished seventh in the final standings – one point clear of rivals Arsenal and five points shy of the top four.
• Players In
- Cristian Romero – Atalanta (£47.00m)
- Bryan Gil – Sevilla (£22.50m + Player)
- Pierluigi Gollini – Atalanta (Loan)
Tottenham have been crying out for a new centre-back for a while now – and it feels like Cristian Romero could prove to be an excellent acquisition.
The 23-year-old Argentine has joined from Atalanta for just under £50m, with former teammate Pierluigi Gollini following him to North London on loan.
Spurs have also signed highly-rated Spaniard Bryan Gil from Sevilla, with Erik Lamela moving in the opposite direction.
• Players Out
- Juan Foyth – Villarreal (£13.50m)
- Toby Alderweireld – Al-Duhail SC (£11.70)
- Joe Hart – Celtic (£1.08m)
- Danny Rose – Watford (Free)
- Paulo Gazzaniga – Fulham (Free)
- Erik Lamela – Sevilla (Swap)
Tottenham have parted ways with six player over the summer, including long-standing servants Toby Alderweirald, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela.
• Tottenham’s Key Player
Harry Kane – As long as he is at the club, Kane will be Tottenham’s most important player. In fact, he has been Tottenham’s standout player for a number of years now.
The England captain win both the Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Year award last season, racking up 23 goals and 14 assists in 35 Premier League appearances.
• What Can Tottenham Achieve in 2021/22?
Having transformed Wolves from a Championship side into a Premier League mainstay, Nuno should be able to steady the ship at Tottenham and take the club forward.
If Kane ends up leaving, however, Spurs won’t be anywhere near as productive in attack. If he stays, they could challenge for Champions League football again.
