Tottenham needs to keep their nerve against Swansea

Tottenham head into Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Swansea at White Hart Lane in good spirits following their progression into the Europa League last-16.

The men from north London are still well in the race for the Premier League title, but could fall further behind league leaders Leicester, who had what it looked to be a comfortable home game against Norwich on Saturday.

This Leicester win against the Canaries could see Spurs drop to five points behind Claudio Ranieri’s side in the table. In turn that will crank up the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s highly talented young team.

Spurs are not accustomed to being in such a lofty position and the mental aspect of the game is vital in title races. Tottenham have had a propensity for suffering rather inexplicable home defeats in recent seasons.

It’s an unexplained phenomenal, but Spurs seem to slip-up against the most unexpected teams. Unfortunately Swansea City are the sort of team that Spurs have lost to in the past. A prime example of Tottenham losing at home came last season when relegation-threatened Aston Villa won 1-0 at the Lane.

It was not an isolated incident though, as it has happened quite a bit in recent seasons. When all the football predictions suggest Spurs will win, they somehow contrive to mess it up.

However, this season Spurs have looked strong both physically and mentally. Spurs have not suffered many inexplicable defeats. In fact they have suffered jut three league defeats altogether, which is the joint-lowest with Leicester.

Maybe this season could be one that Tottenham shake off that tag of under-performers and finally give their supporters something to shout about.
