There has been a lot of talk about the Champions League last-16 tie between Arsenal and Barcelona on Tuesday night, but for me the other last-16 tie in Europe’s elite competition could be the tie of the round.
That tie pits last season’s finalists Juventus against perennial challengers for the trophy Bayern Munich. Both team head into this clash in good form domestically, although Juventus’s incredible 15 match winning run did end on Friday with a 0-0 draw at Bologna.
Both teams have world-class players and it should make for a highly competitive encounter.
Italian champions Juventus endured a nightmare start to the campaign. However their form has been imperious in recent months, as they have rediscovered their form of last season.
The Bianconeri surprised most observers with their run to the final the competition, but they were superbly organised in defence and hit expertly on the counter-attack.
The side from Turin once again have the best defence in Serie A and they will have to at their best to keep out the prolific Bayern Munich strike-force. The Bavarians top the scoring charts in the group stages with Real Madrid and are currently the top scorers in the German top-flight.
The battle between defence and attack should be a fascinating encounter. That is without even mentioning Juventus attacking threat from Paul Pogba, Paolo Dybala and Alvaro Morata.
Both teams will fancy their chances in this match and that could result in a fantastic tie for the neutral. Who needs Arsenal v Barcelona eh?
