Birmingham City seek another upset when Sheffield United visit

Birmingham City caused something of an upset on Saturday when they registered what seemed a highly unlikely 1-0 home win over automatic promotion candidates Leeds United and Gary Monk and his squad will be looking to repeat their heroics when Sheffield United visit St Andrews on Wednesday night.
Birmingham had previously had to endure a difficult and disappointing five match losing streak which included defeats to Hull City, Aston Villa, Millwall, Preston North End and West Brom. As if this wasn’t enough, Birmingham were then handed a 9-point deduction by the EFL for overspending and infringement of the sustainability laws which left The Blues just five points above the relegation zone.
However, Birmingham bounced back with the much-needed win against Leeds United and will be keen to deliver a similar blow to another Yorkshire outfit in the shape of 2nd placed Sheffield United on Wednesday night.
Former Sheffield United striker, Che Adams (22 goals) has been instrumental in Birmingham’s successes this season and along with Jutkiewicz (11 goals), look the most likely to score for the hosts in this one.
Sheffield United bounced back from their recent 3-2 defeat at home to Bristol City on Saturday when they recorded a narrow 1-0 win away against Preston North End at Deepdale to maintain their bid for automatic promotion, and they’ll be hoping they don’t come a cropper like their promotion rivals, Leeds United, when they make their way down to the west midlands on Wednesday night.
The win at Preston became Sheffield United’s seventh win from nine matches but they need to keep their winning momentum going if they’re to edge their Yorkshire rivals Leeds United into a top two finish.
The Blades are unbeaten in their last six matches away from home which include wins at West Brom, Leeds United and Preston North End, with all three victories being by a 1-0 margin.
The visitors have also scored in 15 of their 20 away matches to date this season and with the likes of forwards Sharp (23 goals) and McGoldrick (13 goals) up front, Sheffield United will be confident that they can extend their unbeaten run going on their travels here.
Birmingham City showed they can upset one of the best teams in the division when they beat Leeds United and indeed, they did the ‘double’ over Leeds with that win. In Adams, the hosts possess a dangerous striker while Sheffield United also boast a prolific striker in the shape of Sharp.
Both teams could therefore score at St Andrews on Wednesday night.
