Bristol City and West Brom in play-off dress rehearsal

Bristol City retained their place in the top six of the Championship on Saturday afternoon when they drew 2-2 with Wigan Athletic at Ashton Gate which extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the second tier.

Although it was a frustrating result for Bristol City, the hosts are again at home on Tuesday night when they’ll face 4th placed West Brom who come into this clash on the back of a defeat on the weekend.

Bristol City have recently picked up points from draws with Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic as well as recording back-to-back wins away from home at 2nd placed Sheffield United and 8th placed Middlesbrough in 3-2 and 1-0 victories respectively.

However, it’s not all been plain sailing for Bristol City as they’re without a win from their last four at home having also suffered defeats to Birmingham City and Leeds United, but nevertheless, goals have featured at Ashton Gate as both teams have scored in 12 of their 20 home matches to date.

The hosts possess some dangerous attacking personnel in the shape of Diedhiou (11 goals), Weimann (9 goals), Paterson and Taylor (4 goals apiece).

West Brom’s unbeaten run under caretaker-manager Jimmy Shan came to an abrupt end on Saturday afternoon when they were handed a 2-0 defeat away at relegation strugglers, Millwall, but The Baggies remain in 4th place.

Recent wins against Swansea City, Brentford and local west midlands rivals, Birmingham City had given West Brom a glimmer of hope of perhaps grabbing the second automatic promotion spot, but defeat to The Lions on the weekend has put a big dent in those ambitions.

West Brom have lost just once in their last five matches and they’ve performed well away from home where they’ve won 9 of their last 12 matches on their travels, but the visitors have also given their opponents goalscoring chances in most of their matches.

The Baggies have won 11 of their 20 away matches to date so far in the Championship while 10 of their 20 matches on the road have seen both teams score. Forwards Rodriguez (19 goals) and Gayle (17 goals) along with Robson-Kanu (4 goals) look the most likely to score for the visitors.

The expectations are that this clash will be a tight one, but both teams hitting the back of the net looks likely here.
