Fulham Fighting for Their Lives

Fulham Fighting for Their Lives
3229

There are two matches to look forward to in the Premier League on Tuesday night as the teams catch up on their games in hand ahead of the FA Cup semi-finals.  One of the matches features relegation threatened Fulham, who travel to Vicarage Road to play Watford.

Fulham themselves 16 points adrift of safety and have only 18 points left to play for this season.  A defeat in this game could spell the end of their short stay in the Premier League.  Watford are still fighting to finish as the ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League by coming 7th and a win would help with that goal.

Watford travelled to Manchester United on Saturday and suffered a 2-1 defeat. Despite the hosts not being at their best. The Hornets fell 2-0 down and could not get a goal back until the 90th minute, by which stage it was too late.

That defeat means Watford have lost three of their last five games in all competitions and three of their last four in the Premier League.  They have tasted defeat against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United away from home, which is a very tough run of three games by anyone’s standards.

Trends show Watford are undefeated in their last four home Premier League matches and have won each of their last two against Everton and Leicester City.  There have been under 2.5 goals in three of Watford’s last four home Premier League games.

Fulham were played off the pitch in their opening 20 minutes of their match against Manchester City on the weekend. The visitors raced into a 1-0 lead and never looked like losing control of the game, running out comfortable 2-0 winners to condemn Fulham to yet another defeat.

The loss to Manchester City means Fulham have now lost each of their last eight Premier League games in a row and trends show they have been defeated in twelve of their last thirteen in all competitions.  The only chink of light came in the 4-2 home win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League back in January.

Fulham’s away Premier League record shows fourteen defeats and two draws in sixteen games this season and they are yet to pick up a win.  Trends show they have conceded 2 or more goals in each of their last six away league matches.

Team news and Watford could make several changes to their starting XI with the FA Cup semi-final in mind.  Tom Cleverley is unlikely to play any part due to injury but Gerard Deulofeu, Troy Deeney and Abdoulaye Doucoure could all be rested.

Fulham will be hoping to have Aleksandar Mitrovic back in attack after he missed the defeat to Manchester City.  Marcus Bettinelli and Alfie Mawson and not expected to play again this season.

Despite their attention turning to the FA Cup semi-final, Watford should still have enough to see off a sorry Fulham team who looked out of their depth on the weekend.  Expect the home team to score at least 2 goals.
