Atletico to maintain title challenge against Leganes

Atletico Madrid remains the team that represents even a challenge to reigning Spanish champions Barcelona in La Liga this season. Diego Simeone’s side will attempt to continue their title challenge when they host Leganes on Saturday afternoon.

The team from the capital are seven points behind the Catalan league leaders. It seems unlikely that Ernesto Valverde’s side will drop enough points for Los Rojiblancos to leapfrog them this season, but they have to keep winning in the event that Barcelona does slip-up.

Atletico have won their last three matches in the Spanish top-flight, last time out recording a 2-0 win against Real Sociedad. The match in San Sebastian followed a familiar trend for Atletico’s recent La Liga games, in the fact that it was low scoring, as five of Atletico’s last six league matches have seen under 2.5 goals scored.

Diego Simeone’s team have been strong at the Wanda Metropolitano on home soil of late in La Liga, winning five of their last six matches, while keeping five clean sheets in the process.

Like their league games in general, their recent home matches in La Liga have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in our of their five games.

Leganes are enjoying a solid season in the Spanish top-flight. The minnows are currently mid-table, just four points adrift of Sevilla who occupy the last European spot. A top-six finish this season looks unlikely, but the visitors are in decent form.

In fact, Leganes have lost just once in six outings in La Liga. Last time out in the Spanish top-flight, Mauricio Pellegrino’s side won 1-0 against Levante.

One recent negative for the visitors is their poor away record, as they have lost three of the last four league matches on their travels in La Liga.

Forebet predicts that Atletico Madrid will record a victory in a now typically low scoring game for the men from Madrid.
