Burnley and Crystal Palace set for big six-point match

Burnley and Crystal Palace set for big six-point match

Both Burnley and Crystal Palace go into their big six-point Premier League match just four points above the relegation zone. The two sides lost in midweek and now need to rebound to distance themselves from the drop zone. There are 30 points left to play for this term and with a good run of form, either club could move up into a comfortable mid-table position.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley lost to Newcastle United in midweek, 2-0. The Turf Moor club were outplayed from the first whistle and the loss ended a run of five matches unbeaten. It was a very disappointing loss for Burnley, especially as it followed their 2-1 home win over Tottenham the previous weekend.

The Turf Moor club will be without Jonathan Walters, Aaron Lennon, and Steven Defour due to injuries. Ashley Westwood has been ill this week. However, Dyche still hopes Westwood will be able to take a place on the bench.

Crystal Palace go to northwest England following their 3-1 loss to Manchester United on Wednesday night. Like Burnley at Newcastle, Crystal Palace were outplayed during the 90 minutes. The loss ended the Eagles’ four match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Roy Hodgson side will be without Julian Speroni, Pape Souare, and Connor Wickham. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is fighting to be fit to feature in Hodgson’s starting XI. Centre-back Mamadou Sakho is expected to sit the fixture out as he won’t be fit in time for kick off.

Crystal Palace’s front three of Michy Batshuayi, Andros Townsend, and Wilfried Zaha could cause problems for Burnley throughout the game. The exciting trio has pace and power that can overrun Burnley’s back line. Burnley have recorded a –19-goal difference this term and have allowed the fourth most goals (50).

Palace, on the other hand, have conceded just 38 times which is the eighth fewest goals in the league.

Saturday’s game at Turf Moor will be a low scoring affair. Since both teams began playing in the Premier League in 2014, five of their seven meetings have ended with fewer than 2.5 goals scored. Burnley have won their last two games at Turf Moor against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. However, these two sides are evenly matched and desperately need points for survival.

The game will be a cagey affair with the score ending in a score draw and fewer than 2.5 goals scored. A share of the spoils will improve both Burnley’s and Crystal Palace’s chances of survival.
