Borussia Dortmund are in desperate need of a win against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Dortmund’s Bundesliga lead has been cut to just three points and Bayern Munich are charging hard.

Dortmund are undefeated in their last six matches, but they have drawn three straight. On Monday, the yellow and black suffered a shock draw to the Bundesliga’s bottom team Nuernberg.

Bayer have rebounded after a very poor start to the season. They have slowly climbed the table and currently sit in sixth place. Bayer have won six of their last seven games in the Bundesliga. Two of their four most recent wins saw them keep clean sheets. Bayer outscored their opponents 13-2 during that four-game span.

In their last four games against Bayer, Dortmund are undefeated. Three of those four games ended in wins. All three Dortmund victories ended with four or more goals scored versus Bayer. Earlier this season, Dortmund came back from two goals down at halftime to defeat Bayer 4-2. The win was an example of just how explosive Dortmund can be.

Lucien Favre could have injured captain Marco Reus back in the team. Dortmund have missed the captain’s influence on the side. He has missed Dortmund’s last two matches in all competitions. Favre could also have Manuel Akanji back to fitness.

However, Christian Pulisic looks likely to miss out through an injury of his own. Favre could select leading scorer Paco Alcacer, who is back from his own injury, but the Spaniard hasn’t scored in his last six matches. Alcacer did score twice in the teams’ previous game this season.

Bayer manager Peter Bosz has a lot to prove against Dortmund. Bosz started the 2017-18 season as Dortmund boss before being shown the door in December after losing the dressing room. Since taking over Bayer in December, he has worked wonders with the players. Bosz has just one major injury to worry about and that is winger Karim Bellarabi.

Dortmund have felt the pressure of the title race in recent weeks. Although they haven’t lost, they have allowed Bayern back into the title picture. Favre needs a big performance from his team. Bosz will have redemption on his mind as the sides clash at the Signal Iduna Park. Like their recent fixtures, this game should see plenty of goals scored between them. Dortmund will finally end their winless run at the expense of their former manager. With Reus back, Dortmund will resume their title charge.
