Saint-Etienne and Strasbourg set for a close clash

On Wednesday evening, Saint-Etienne host Strasbourg in Ligue One, as the home side attempts to push into the European spots in the French top-flight.

Saint-Étienne are fifth place in the Ligue One table, only outside the European spots by virtue of an inferior goal difference to Montpellier. A three-game winless run in Ligue One, including a 3-0 away defeat at Rennes last time out, has not helped their chances of making the European places this season.

Les Verts recent league outings have been relatively high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four outings in the French top-flight.

The home side has a good recent home record in Ligue One, winning five of their last six Ligue One outings at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. However, a 2-1 reverse against Lyon last time out in the league ended a five-game winning run on home soil for Saint-Etienne.

A key to their recent good home form in the French top-flight has been their attacking prowess, as they have scored two or more goals in five of their last six league matches on home soil.

Strasbourg are currently ninth in the French top-flight table but could jump to as high as fourth with a victory in this clash.

The visitors have enjoyed a good recent run of form in Ligue One, winning four of their last five matches in the French top-flight. However, Thierry Laurey’s team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Angers in their last Ligue One outing, which ended a four-game winning run.

Strasbourg’s recent Ligue One matches have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven matches.

The visitors have been in decent away form of late, winning three of their last four league games and scoring at least two goals in all three away wins.

Forebet predicts that this clash will finish in a high scoring draw, which would be enough to move the home side into the European spots.
