Sporting to continue winning run against Belenenses

On Thursday evening, Sporting CP host Belenenses at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, as the home side looks to keep pace with the teams above them.

Sporting are currently third place in the table, a point behind second place rivals Benfica and five behind league leaders Porto.

A 1-0 defeat at Vitoria Guimaraes ended a six-game winning run in the league. The game also ended a run of high scoring matches in the league, as their previous seven games had produced over 2.5 goals. Both teams have also scored in five of Sporting’s last six league matches.

Sporting have been formidable on home soil of late in the Primeira Liga, as they are unbeaten in 25 home games, recording 22 wins in the process. The team from the Portuguese capital have been prolific on home soil scoring at least two goals in six of their last seven home matches, including their last five games.

Belenenses are unbeaten in eight matches in the Primeira Liga, having recorded four and drawn four of their last eight league outings. The visitor’s recent league form has seen them rise to sixth place in the table.

Last time out the Belenenses recorded a 5-2 win over Desportivo Aves. The game was the third game out of four in the league that has produced over 2.5 goals. A big factor in those recent high scoring games is that the visitors have scored at least two goals in three of their last four league outings.

Belenenses are unbeaten in seven away games in the Primeira Liga, although five of those games have finished in draws. Their recent away matches in the Portuguese top-flight have also been relatively low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last ten away matches.

Forebet predicts that Sporting will end the visitor’s recent good form by recording a victory in a high scoring encounter.
