West Ham to recover from recent loss

Just two points separate West Ham and Brighton in the Premier League table. The Hammers have obtained 27 points from a possible 60 while Brighton have tallied 25. Brighton are in good form heading into their trip to London.

The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last two matches having drawn with Arsenal before defeating Everton at the weekend. West Ham, on the other hand, have lost two of their last three games. Manuel Pellegrini’s side lost to Watford and Burnley while defeating Southampton in between those fixtures.

West Ham received an injury boost over the weekend with the return of Marko Arnautovic. The club is still missing striker Javier Hernandez who won't return for the midweek clash at the Olympic Stadium. The Mexican international is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Defender Fabian Balbuena is set to miss the game as well. Right-back Pablo Zabaleta could return in time, however. Pellegrini has favoured a 4-4-2 formation this season. However, due to injuries, he was forced to change it in recent weeks. The formation change and injury crisis coincided with West Ham’s dip in form.

Brighton will be without Mathew Ryan and Alireza Jahanbakhsh. Both are controversially on international duty at the Asian Cup with the respective nations. Ryan, who is Brighton’s starting goalkeeper, has left fans upset by his absence. David Button came into the side against Everton and played well in Brighton’s 1-0 victory. Anthony Knockaert and Bruno missed the win against Everton due to injury, but should be fit to fight for a place in the squad.

The last six matches between West Ham and Brighton in all competitions have ended in three wins apiece for each club. West Ham have outscored Brighton 11-7 in those six games. However, the Seagulls have won the last three matches against the Hammers. Earlier this term, Brighton won 1-0 against West Ham at the Amex Stadium.

Despite having a good record against West Ham, Brighton have played poorly away from home this term and last. Brighton have failed to win 21 of their last 23 away league matches. Brighton’s most recent games have not seen many goals. There have been fewer than 2.5 goals scored in Brighton's last three league games.

While Brighton have won their last three games against West Ham, the Seagulls’ road struggles will see them lose at the Olympic Stadium. West Ham will pick up all three points against Brighton and move up the Premier League table.
