A battle of two teams looking for form

A battle of two teams looking for form

Tenth place Leicester host ninth place Watford on Saturday at the King Power Stadium. Both sides are looking to find better form and power themselves back into contention for a Europa League place. Leicester are nine points behind fifth place Arsenal, while Watford are seven points back.

Leicester are undefeated in their last four matches, but three of those games have ended in draws. Their four-game unbeaten streak has seen fewer than 2.5 goals scored in each game. Leicester City are ninth in scoring in the Premier League with 18 goals, but the Foxes defence has allowed 17 strikes. Their games have been low scoring of late and despite James Maddison being praised for his goals and creativity early on, the midfielder has fallen out of form.

Maddison has three goals and two assists, but hasn’t contributed to a goal in his last five Premier League games. He was suspended for Leicester’s mid-week cup game against Southampton after collecting two red cards against Cardiff in just 28 minutes. Jamie Vardy will be relied upon to get the goals for on Saturday. The Englishman has struck the back of the net four times.

Watford manager Javi Gracia signed a new four-and-half-year contract this week. He has done wonders for Watford since arriving last season. Thanks to his management, Watford overachieved early on this season, and at one time they were in the top three. Gracia will have important full-back Jose Holebas back from injury. Holebas is highly influential as he has directly contributed to six of Watford’s 17 goals. Watford’s defence has been suspect at times as it has allowed 17 goals.

The Hornets are winless in their last three matches. They have scored just once in the three fixtures while giving up five goals. Just one of their three matches have seen over 2.5 goals, which came in last weekend’s 3-0 home loss to Liverpool. Watford have collected eight of 18 points on the road and registered a +1-goal difference. However, they are winless in their last two games away from Vicarage Road.

Leicester have taken eight of 18 points at home. The Foxes are winless in three straight home games with the last two finishing level. Leicester have scored just two goals in those three matches. Leicester have had a discipline problem as players have been sent off four times this term.

The Foxes have won four of their last six meetings with Watford. The Hornets have only secured two wins, which both came at Vicarage Road. Three of their last six matches have seen more than 2.5 goals scored. Neither team is in good form. Due to the lack of form and goal scoring in recent games, Saturday’s fixture will end in a score draw between Leicester and Watford.
