Porto set seal top spot in Group D

On Wednesday night, Porto and Schalke go head-to-head in the battle for qualification from Group D of the Champions League.

Porto can seal top spot in the group if they record a victory, while a draw would ensure they qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

The Portuguese side heads into this clash on the back of an eight-match winning run in all competitions, including two victories over Lokomotiv Moscow in this competition.

Porto are also now five games unbeaten in the Champions league, having recorded three straight victories in Europe’s primary competition.

The home side also has a decent recent home record in this competition, winning four of their last five outing at the Estadio Do Dragao. Their recent home games in the Champions League have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings.

Schalke are experiencing a difficult domestic campaign. However, their Champions League campaign is going slightly better, as a victory would seal qualification for the knockout stages. A draw would be enough if Galatasaray fails to beat Lokomotiv in the Russian capital.

The visitors are unbeaten in five games in the Champions League, having recorded three wins and two draws. Their recent Champions League games have been low scoring, tight affairs with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven matches in the competition, including their last four matches.

Schalke are unbeaten in four games on their travels in Europe’s elite competition, having recorded three wins and a draw. A 0-0 draw in Turkey last time out against Galatasaray ended a three-game winning away run for the visitors.

The German side has also managed to keep clean sheets in three of their last four away games in the Champions league.

Forebet predicts that Porto will record a victory in a low-scoring encounter to win the group and qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
