Atletico Madrid to defeat Monaco

On Wednesday evening, Atletico Madrid host Monaco at the Wanda Metropolitano, as the home side look to seal their qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.
Atletico only need a point to seal progress to the knockout stages of the competition. However, Diego Simeone’s side will be looking for three points in the fight to top the group with Dortmund.
The home side has a good recent record in Europe’s elite competition, winning four of their last six outings in the Champions league. Los Rojiblancos have also been prolific in those four aforementioned wins, recording at least two goals in each of the victories.
Simeone’s side has a strong recent home record in the Champions League, winning ten of their last 13 outings on home soil. Their recent home games in the competition have been relatively low scoring, though, as 11 of their last 15 games have produced under 2.5 goals.
Monaco are currently bottom of the group, having endured a nightmare campaign so far. The Ligue One outfit could still make third place in the group if they can bridge the gap to third place Club Brugge who have collected four points in the group.
The visitors have won just one of their last 17 games in all competitions. However, that one victory was in their last outing a 1-0 win at Caen, Thierry Henry’s first as Monaco boss.
Monaco have a woeful recent record in the Champions league, as they have failed to win in 12 games while suffering nine defeats in the process.
The visitors have also won just one of their last ten away games in the Champions league. Their recent Champions League games on their travels have been high scoring, though, as six of their last nine away games have produced over 2.5 goals.
Forebet predicts that Atletico will record a victory in a high scoring game to keep their hopes alive of finishing top of the group.
