Internacional to keep slim title hopes alive against Atletico Mineiro

We are now in the closing stages of the Brazilian Serie A season. There is still plenty to decide in Serie A, even who is crowned Brazilian champions. One team hoping to top the table are Internacional, who on Wednesday night host Atletico Mineiro.

Internacional’s hopes of topping the table do look slim, as they are currently third-place, six points behind leaders Palmeiras with just three league games to go.

However, as we know with football you have to expect the unexpected, so the home side will still believe they can catch the leaders until it is mathematically impossible.

Internacional have hindered their chances of winning the title with a relatively inconsistent run of form. Last time out they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Botafogo, which could prove to be a key result in the title race. They had also drawn three of their previous five league games.

Internacional have a formidable recent home record in Serie A, as they are unbeaten in 21 league games on home soil, recording 15 victories in the process.

Atletico Mineiro are currently battling it out for a Copa Libertadores spot for next season. The visitors are sixth place in the table, just three points clear of seventh place Atletico PR.

The visitors have taken seven points from a possible nine of late, recording consecutive league wins over Parana and last time out Bahia.

Atletico Mineiro’s recent Serie A games have been tight, low scoring affairs, with their last eight matches producing under 2.5 goals.

The team from Belo-Horizonte have struggled for away wins of late, as a 1-0 win at Parana in their last league outing ended a seven-game winless run on their travels for the visitors.

This game could be a tight one. Forebet predicts it will end in a low-scoring victory for the home side that could prove to be a crucial result in the title race.
