On Wednesday night, CSKA Moscow host Roma at the VEB Arena in Group G of the Champions League, as the pair look for what could be a potentially crucial win in the battle for qualification for the knockout rounds.
Roma are currently second in the group with six points, while CSKA are third having picked up four points so far this season in Group G.
CKSA Moscow heads into this clash on a poor run of form. In fact, the Russian side has won just once in six games in all competitions.
The home side’s recent record in Europe’s elite competition is inconsistent, as they followed up a historic 1-0 home win over Real Madrid with a 3-0 defeat at Roma in the reverse fixture to this clash.
CSKA’s home record in this competition is also a mixed one. However, they have now won their last two home games in the Champions League, while losing just two of the last eight games on home soil.
Roma reached the semi-finals of this competition last season, and the Giallorossi’s record in the Champions League of late is not bad. The team from the Italian capital has now won their last two games in the competition, scoring eight times and not conceding in the process.
Despite an encouraging recent record in the Champions League, Roma’s recent away record is woeful. The Giallorossi have now lost their last five away games in the competition, while also winning just one of their last 17 games on their travels.
A poor defensive record has heavily contributed to that woeful away form, as the visitors have now conceded at least two goals in their last six away games in Europe’s elite competition.
Forebet predicts that these two teams will be difficult to separate and that the game will end in a low scoring draw.
