It’s been a September to forget for Tottenham as they have suffered three successive defeats, a run of results that before now has never occurred under current manager Mauricio Pochettino and it is one that then Argentine will be looking to end this weekend.

After a poor showing against Liverpool in the Premier League last week, it looked as if the tide had turned against Inter Milan in the Champions League. After Christian Eriksen’s second half strike, it seemed as if Spurs were to get their European exploits off to a perfect start.

However, two late goals for the hosts saw the game turned on its head as the Italian outfit snatched all three points. A cruel defeat for Tottenham and as the pressure mounts they will have to dust themselves off for the trip to Brighton on Saturday.

Chris Hughton’s Brighton side had drawn their last two league outings, and that pair of performances have shown that the Seagulls have the grit and determination required to claw a result back from a losing position.

Just as before the international break when they came from 2-0 down to draw with Fulham, the same happened away at Southampton on Monday night as the Saints will be asking themselves how they did not complete the task of a home win.

The answer to that is a much more spirited Brighton in the second half and they were rewarded late on when their talisman Glenn Murray slotted home from the spot after Anthony Taylor awarded a last-minute penalty.

If he is Brighton’s talisman then of course the same statement can be labelled to Harry Kane for Tottenham, at the start of the season the England international broke his August jinx with goals against Fulham and Manchester United.

However, it now seems as the bad luck has moved across to September instead. Much has been made of his fitness or apparent lack thereof, something that was again evident in the defeats to both Liverpool and Inter Milan.

Had Tottenham beaten Liverpool at the weekend, then it could well have opened up an opportunity for Kane to be rested when he and his teammates make the relatively short trip to the South Coast on Saturday.

But now it seems more than likely that the England forward will once again lead the line for Tottenham, not only because he will want to play as many minutes as possible but also for the simple fact that Mauricio Pochettino does not have an able understudy.

At the same time though you do get the feeling that it only needs a goal from Kane to dispel all this fitness talk and If Tottenham can get a win then the apparent crisis that they are currently in will also dissipate.

However, the AMEX is not an easy ground to come to and Tottenham will be fully aware of that after a 1-1 draw here last season. Brighton have already claimed a scalp in the shape of Manchester United this time around and will be confident of pulling off another.

It is perhaps a little too early to be talking about must win fixtures, but after a trio successive losses for Tottenham then it is clearly apparent that they need all three points on Saturday. Thankfully for Spurs fans it is a result they should be able to deliver.
