Celtic to record victory over Suduva in Europa League
Celtic will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of exiting the Champions League by qualifying for the group stages of the Europa League. The Hoops enter the competition at the play-off stage on Thursday evening, as they visit Lithuanian side Suduva for a first leg clash.
Suduva defeated Latvian side Spartaks Jurmala 1-0 on aggregate in the last round to set up this tie. Celtic should certainly represent a tougher opposition to their presence in the competition.
The home side has a recent mixed record in the Europa League, but they have been hard to beat of late in the competition though, losing just once in their last six outings.
Their recent games in Europe’s secondary competition have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight games, including their last five.
Suduva are unbeaten in three Europa League games on home soil and have also kept clean sheets in all three matches. However, they have won just two of their last 13 Europa League games on home soil.
Celtic have a poor record in the Europa League, having recorded just one win from their last 13 outings in the competition. In fact, the SPL champions have lost four of their previous six games in the Europa League.
The visitor’s games in the competition have at least offered value for money when it comes to goals, as six of their previous eight Europa League games have produced over 2.5 goals.
Celtic’s recent away record in the Europa League is woeful, as the Scottish champions have won just one of their last 19 away games. The visitors are also currently on a nine-game winless run in the top-flight.
Forebet predicts that Celtic will improve their away form in the Europa League by recording a win in a low scoring encounter.
