Lyon set to burst Reims bubble in Ligue One

Stade Reims enjoyed a dream return to Ligue One last weekend when the top-flight new boys recorded a 1-0 win at Nice. However, Reims faces an even tougher task on Friday night, as they host Lyon at the Stade Auguste-Delaune II.

Reims had been absent from the French top-flight for two years prior to this season. However, their opening weekend display suggests that the visitors could make a better fist of life in Ligue 1 this time around.

Ironically, Reims defeated Lyon 4-1 in their last Ligue One game back in 2016. The victory ended a run of four consecutive defeats in the French top-flight for the home side. However, they ended their last campaign in Ligue One with just two wins from their final ten outings.

Understandably considering that they were relegated in their last Ligue 1 spell, Reims’ home record in the French top-flight was a mixed one, as they won three and lost three of their last six league games on home soil.

Lyon kicked off their Ligue One campaign with a 2-0 home win over Amiens. The win means that the visitors have now won ten of their last 11 games in the French top-flight. OL have also suffered just five defeats from their last 33 games in Ligue One.

Lyon have continued to show their attacking prowess this season, as the victory over Amiens means that Bruno Genesio’s side has now scored two or more goals in their last ten outings in Ligue 1.

OL’s away form has been rather inconsistent of late in Ligue One though, as the visitors have won just three of their last eight away games in the French top-flight. They have however scored at least twice in their last four games on their travels in Ligue One.

Forebet predicts that Lyon will make it two wins out of two in the French top-flight this season by recording a victory in a high scoring encounter.
