Leipzig set for a comfortable win over Universitatea Craiova
On Thursday evening, RB Leipzig host CS Univ Craiova in the Europa League third qualifying round first leg, as both sides to move closer to the competition's play-off round.
RB Leipzig only made their Europa League debut last season, as the German side have only been in the Bundesliga for the past two seasons. Leipzig have a mixed record in the competition, having won just four of their last eight games.
Ralf Rangnick’s side defeated Swedish side Hacken 5-1 on aggregate in the last round of the competition. The home side will be highly confident of qualifying for the Europa League play-off round.
The German side has won three of their four home games in Europe’s secondary competition. In fact, they have recorded three straight victories on home soil in the Europa League, so are a formidable prospect on home soil.
They have only ever failed to score in one home game in the competition. This clash gives the home side the chance to extend that record, as they should have too much quality for the visitors.
Universitatea Craiova have even less recent European experience than the hosts, as their only appearance in the Europa Leaguee came last season when the Romanian side suffered a 3-0 aggregate defeat against Italian giants AC Milan.
The visitors suffered defeat in both games against the Rossoneri, failing to score in either game.
The Romanian side had previously played in the old UEFA Cup, with their appearance coming back in season 1990-91 when they suffered a 4-0 aggregate defeat against German side Dortmund. Craiova also played in the old European Cup for three seasons in the 1970’s and 80’s.
Forebet predicts that RB Leipzig are set to record a high scoring victory to put one foot into the play-off round of the competition.
