Honka and HJK to finish level

Finnish Veikkausliiga leaders HJK travel to third-place Honka on Saturday for a top of the table clash. HJK currently hold a 12-point lead over Honka. The hosts must win all three points on Saturday to have any chance of catching the league leaders.

Honka are experiencing a fantastic season after winning promotion to the Veikklausliiga at the end of last term. Honka manager Vesa Vasara has seen his team lose just once in their last six matches. Three of those matches ended in wins for the Espoo based club.

Vasara has seen his squad play well at home this season. Honka have lost just once at the Tapiolan Urheilupuisto stadium posting a +8-goal difference. Honka’s attack has scored the second most goals at home in the Veikkausliiga this term (18). Only HJK have scored more goals at home (26). Honka’s Macoumba Kandji and Borja Martin have combined to score 15 goals.

Reigning Veikkausliiga champions HJK haven’t won in their last three road matches. The club suffered its first away loss last time out losing to Lahti, 2-1. HJK are +5 in away matches scoring 12 times and allowing seven goals. HJK’s Joao Klauss leads the Veikkausliiga in goals scored with 13.

HJK are currently playing in the Champions League second qualifying round. The club drew nil-nil with BATE Borisov in midweek. HJK have put a lot of their focus on the Champions League and it could affect the club’s league form. Although they are playing in two competitions, it is doubtful Honka can overcome the 12 points between them. Honka do have an opportunity to take points off of the league leaders and narrow the gap.

Both clubs score freely. HJK have tallied a total of 38 goals, which is good for first in the league. Honka sit third in the goal scoring charts having tallied 31 goals overall. This fixture should see both teams get on the scoresheet in a closely contested game. HJK have shown an ability to score goals in the second half of fixtures. Over three-quarters of HJK’ goals have come in the second half of matches.

HJK’s away form combined with Honka’s four wins in their last six home games will see the fixture end in a draw. The two teams are evenly matched and HJK are focused on next week’s Champions League second qualifying round fixture. The league leaders will drop points as the match ends in a draw.
