Tunisia set for a big victory over Panama
On Thursday night, Panama and Tunisia clash in Group G of the World Cup, as both teams look to finish their campaigns on a winning note.
Panama have suffered elimination from the competition after a 3-0 defeat against Belgium before a 6-1 hammering at the hands of England in their last outing. The Central American team have produced committed displays in Russia, but have been out of their depth against their European opponents.
Hernan Gomez’s side at least scored their first ever goal at a finals against England, as the experienced Felipe Baloy found the net. They will be hopeful of getting their first point at a World Cup in this clash.
However, their recent form has been poor, as they have won just once in their last nine games. Meanwhile, the minnows have also suffered five defeats in their previous seven international outings.
Like their opponents, Tunisia have suffered defeats in both of their group games at Russia 2018, losing 2-1 to England and 5-2 to Belgium. The losses mean that the North African side have now failed to get out of the group stages at all five of their appearances at the World Cup.
Nabil Maaloul’s side has not failed to win in their last five international games, while also suffering defeat in their previous three outings. Their recent games have been high scoring with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five outings.
One of the main factors in those recent high scoring games is their poor defensive record, as Maaloul’s team have conceded at least two goals in four of those aforementioned five games.
The North Africans have now failed to win any of their 13 World Cup games, with their only win back in 1978, which was a 3-1 victory over Mexico in their first ever finals match.
