Switzerland set for a win over Serbia

On Friday night, Serbia and Switzerland go head-to-head in Group E of the World Cup, in a game that could prove vital in the fight for the knockout stages of the competition.

Serbia pulled off a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in their game in the group. Aleksandar Kolarov scored the only goal of the game to put Mladen Krstajic’s side in pole position to qualify ahead of the Swiss.

Their recent form has been inconsistent, but they have now won three of their last four outings. Serbia’s recent international outings have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight outings.

The Eastern European outfit knows that a win would virtually guarantee a place in the last 16 of the competition. Serbia could even suffer defeat and still have a chance of qualifying, but they face Brazil in their last group game, so it would be difficult.

Switzerland showed their resilience last time out in a 1-1 draw against Selecao. Vladimir Petkovic’s side are unbeaten in their last seven internationals. They have also suffered just one defeat in their last 18 outings, which came in their only defeat in qualifying for the World Cup against Portugal.

Switzerland’s recent international games have been low scoring with under 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight international games.

The Swiss have qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup in two of their last three appearances at finals. A victory in this clash would put Petkovic’s side in pole position to make the last 16 alongside group favourites Brazil.

These two teams are relatively well matched and there is not likely to be much between the pair. This game looks set to be a tight one and Forebet predicts that Switzerland will record a victory in a low scoring game.
