Real Salt Lake to see off the Galaxy

On Sunday afternoon, LA Galaxy host Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference of MLS, as the visitors look to close in on the top two teams in the standings.

LA Galaxy are enduring an inconsistent campaign and currently sit eighth in the Western Conference standings. Despite relatively poor recent form, Sigi Schmid’s side are just three points behind Vancouver, who occupy the final play-off spot. The Galaxy have also played a game fewer than the Canadian team.

A run of just two wins in their last eight MLS outings has not helped their chances of securing a play-off berth for this season, though. To make matters worse, the home side has suffered defeat in five of those eight games.

The Galaxy have also conceded at least two goals in five of their last eight MLS outings, which has contributed to their poor recent results.

Schmid’s team have a woeful recent home record at the Stubhub Centre in the USA top-flight, losing four of their last five MLS games on home soil, while also conceding at least twice in all four defeats.

Real Salt Lake are currently third in the standings, in the play-off spots and six points behind Dallas FC who occupy second-place. The visitors will need to put together a good run of form to catch the top two.

The visitors have hit a decent run of form of late, winning four of their last five MLS games and suffering one defeat.

Mike Petke’s side has a woeful recent record on the road in MLS, losing five of their last six league games on their travels. However, a 1-0 win in Seattle last time out on the road ended a five-game losing run.
