Cabinteely to add to Athlone’s woes

On Monday night, Cabinteely host Athlone in the Irish First Division, as the home side look to get their season back on track.

Cabinteely are currently seventh in the Irish second tier after an unconvincing season to date. They are currently eight points behind the top six, so need a win to make up ground on the teams above them.

In truth, the home sides form in the First Division has been poor, as they have suffered ten defeats in their last 15 outings in the Irish second tier. Last time out the home side suffered a 2-0 defeat at Drogheda United.

The defeat means they have now suffered defeat in three of their last four league outings.

The home side does have a good recent home record against the visitors, though, winning the last four First Division games on home soil against Athlone. Cabinteely have also managed to score two or more goals in all four of those recent home wins over Town.

Athlone are experiencing a terrible league campaign. The visitors have picked up just two points from their 14 First Division games this season, having failed to record a win.

In fact, Athlone have found league wins hard to come by in the Irish second tier, winning just one of their last 32 outings in the First Division.

Part of that record is down to their poor away form, as the visitors have lost their last 12 away games in the First Division. In fact, they have only avoided defeat once in their last 19 league games on their travels.

A terrible defensive record has played a big part in that recent poor away record, as they have lost by more than three goals in their last nine games on their travels in the First Division.
