Levante set for a nervous end to La Liga campaign
On Monday night, Levante visits Athletic Bilbao’s San Mames in a game that could be crucial to the visitor’s hopes of staying clear of the relegation zone.
At one point during the campaign, it looked like the relegation spots had been decided. However, Deportivo La Coruna have moved closer to 17th place Levante and pulled the Valencia-based side back into the fight for survival.
In fact, the visitors are just six points clear of the drop zone, although they do have a game in-hand on Clarence Seedorf’s Depor.
Paco Lopez’s side has been in decent form of late in La Liga, losing just one of their last seven league games, while recording four wins in their last six outings in the Spanish top-flight.
Despite a decent recent run of form, picking up points on their travels has been difficult for Levante, who have won just one of their last 11 games on their travels in La Liga. Lopez’s side has also suffered four defeats in their last six away games in the Spanish top-flight.
Athletic have endured an inconsistent campaign this season and are currently 13th in the table, six points clear of the visitors.
Jose Angel Ziganda’s team have recorded just two wins from their last eight La Liga games. However, last time out in La Liga the home side claim a very respectable 1-1 draw at reigning European and Spanish champions Real Madrid.
Bilbao have struggled for wins of late at San Mames in La Liga. However, the home side has suffered just one defeat in their last 11 top-flight outings on home soil. Seven of those aforementioned 11 games have finished in draws. Nine of Athletic’s last 11 La Liga games on home soil have produced under 2.5 goals.
Forebet predicts that Athletic will record a victory in a high scoring encounter, which would still leave Levante looking over their shoulders nervously at the bottom three.
