Millwall to keep promotion push going with win
Millwall go into Tuesday night's match against Bolton on a 15-match unbeaten run in the Championship. The Lions have accumulated points by playing direct, in your face football.
Currently seventh in the Championship, Millwall have a realistic chance of making the promotion playoffs and winning promotion for a second consecutive season. Just one point separates Millwall from sixth place Middlesbrough, and if results go the Lions' way on Tuesday, the club could be in the promotion places.
Meanwhile, Bolton are fighting relegation and just two points separates Wanderers from the bottom three. Bolton have lost their last three matches and looked poor in all three encounters. Wanderers had pieced together a solid set of results until their current three game slide, which has brought them back to Earth and near relegation. Bolton have tallied the third fewest goals in the Championship and Millwall's defence has been difficult for teams to breakdown this term. The Lions have given up the fourth fewest goals in the league (39). Four of the team's last six matches have ended in clean sheets. Goalkeeper Jordan Archer has tallied 2.8 saves per game and 15 clean sheets.
Making Bolton's plight for a win even more difficult against Millwall's defence will be the loss of Darren Pratley. The often-injured midfielder is set to miss out on the fixture due a leg injury. The club's captain has missed the last three Bolton fixtures, and all three have ended in defeat. Pratley had played 27 times before his latest injury, scoring two goals and assisting three. Without him in the starting XI, Bolton will be without their heart and soul.
Bolton's goal scoring this term has been abysmal. Wanderers average just 0.8 goals per game. The club hasn't scored more than one goal in a match since December 23, when the club defeated Cardiff 2-0.
Millwall's away record is another factor that should scare Bolton ahead of the fixture. Millwall have posted the fourth best away record in the league. The Lions have accumulated 25 of 60 points while scoring 20 away goals. Bolton's home form is what has saved them for much of the campaign, as the club has secured 28 of 60 points. However, Wanderers have lost two of their last two home matches.
Millwall have a difficult week that begins on Tuesday. Bolton maybe near the bottom of the table, but Wanderers are fighting for their Championship lives. The club's possible relegation makes it a dangerous team to play this time of year. Millwall will then travel to Sheffield United to play a playoff rival.
In the end, Millwall should have no difficulty getting past Bolton on Tuesday, which will set them up for a tasty encounter with the Blades at the weekend.
