Relegation and Promotion on the Line in League Two

Relegation and Promotion on the Line in League Two

The final clash of the weekend in League Two takes place on Sunday and is a meeting between Chesterfield and Notts County at the Proact Stadium.

This match could have huge implications at both the top and bottom of League Two as Chesterfield attempt to avoid the drop out of the Football League and Notts County aim for promotion.

Chesterfield start the weekend in 23rd place and 6 points adrift of safety.  They need to win this game and hope other results go their way if they want to close the gap on the teams above them in the league.

Notts County will begin the match no lower than 5th place in League Two and they still have hopes of moving into the automatic promotion places.  If Wycombe lose their match, Notts County could move up to third place this week.

Trends show Chesterfield have won just one of their last seven League Two games and they picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham last time out. The victory was a 2-1 win over Swindon Town on the 24th February and with Swindon currently in the top half of the table, that was a good result.

However, home form is not good and Chesterfield have lost four of their last five league games, with the only win coming against Swindon.  There have been defeats against Stevenage, Crawley Town, Cambridge United and Lincoln City.

Chesterfield conceded 10 goals in their last five home League Two games at an average of 2 goals per game.

Notts County come into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw at home with Mansfield Town last weekend.  That result means it is now four unbeaten in League Two for the promotion hopefuls and they have defeated Stevenage at home and Forest Green Rovers away.

Despite having avoided defeat in six of their last seven League Two games, Notts County have been struggling to win matches on the road this season and have picked up maximum points only twice in fourteen games.

However, they have been difficult to beat and although they have not been winning many away matches, they have lost just three of the last twelve and will feel confident of getting something from this game.

Team news and Ian Evatt, Jordan Sinnott and Robbie Weir are all battling their way back to fitness but could miss out for Chesterfield.  Louis Reed should return to the starting XI having served a two-match ban.

Notts County will travel without Ben Hall who has been called up to the Northern Ireland Under-21s and Shaun Brisley could take his place in the team.

Although Notts County have been struggling to pick up wins away from home, they know what it takes to make things difficult for the opposition.  Chesterfield are desperate for points and the longer Notts County frustrate them, the more nervous they will become.

If one team is going to pick up 3 points from this game, it will be the away side.
