Drogheda and Galway to finish all square
Two of the top teams in the Irish First Division meet on Friday night, as Drogheda United host Galway United at Hunky Dorys Park.
Drogheda currently sits third-place in the Irish second tier after relegation from the Irish top-flight last season. A win would move the home side above the visitors in the table, but with second place UCD Dublin also playing on Friday a win may not be enough to move into top spot.
However, Tim Clancy’s side has a game in hand on the teams above them, having only played two games so far this season. Last time out in the First Division, the home side recorded an 8-1 win at Wexford.
Dating back to their last spell in the second tier in 2016, Drogheda has won four of their last five games in the second tier. They have also won seven of their last nine games in the First Division.
Galway also suffered relegation from the Irish top-flight last season. The visitors have made a decent start to life in the second tier, picking up two wins and a draw against second-place UCD Dublin.
Last time out, the league leaders recorded a comfortable 3-1 home win against Cabinteely. The result means that the visitors have scored two or more goals in five of their last six outings in the Irish second tier, although that was including games in their last spell in this division back in 2014.
Galway are unbeaten in six away games in the First Division, having recorded four wins and two draws in the process. Both teams have scored in their last four away games in the second tier. However, that may mean little, as three of those games were back in 2014.
There is little between these two teams in terms of quality. Forebet predicts the game will end in a high scoring draw.
