Zenit to progress past RB Leipzig in the Europa League
On Thursday night, Zenit St. Petersburg host German side RB Leipzig at the Stadion Krestovskyi in the Europa League last 16 second leg.
The visitors have a slight advantage from the first leg, as they recorded a 2-1 win at the Red Bull Arena. However, Zenit will fancy their chances of progressing due to their strong home record in this competition.
The Russian side have won nine of their last ten games on home soil in this competition, while also suffering just one home defeat in 24 home games in Europe’s secondary competition.
Zenit have also been prolific at home in the Europa League, scoring two or more goals in 12 of their last 13 games in this competition.
Despite their good home form in the Europa League, Roberto Mancini’s side have lost two of their last three games in this competition. However, both games have been on their travels.
RB Leipzig have enjoyed another decent campaign at home and abroad. The visitors are still fighting for a Champions League spot in the Bundesliga, while also attempting to win their first European silverware in their debut campaign in Europe.
This is just the visitors third ever game in this competition, having eliminated Italian giants Napoli in the last round. The German side recorded a 3-1 win in Naples, which turned out to be the key to making it through to the last 16.
RB Leipzig’s European games this season have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in six of their seven games in the Champions league and the Europa League. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their nine European games in both competitions.
Zenit are formidable opponents on home soil and Forebet predicts the Russian side will record a victory in a low scoring affair.
