Swans and Irons set for a stalemate

Swans and Irons set for a stalemate

On Saturday afternoon, Swansea and West Ham clash at the Liberty Stadium, in a game that could prove vital in the Premier League relegation battle.

The home side had recently been on a good run of form in the Premier League. However, a 4-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Brighton last time out saw a five-game unbeaten run in the English top-flight end.

Prior to the loss, Carlos Carvalhal’s team had won three out of their previous four league games and moved out of the relegation zone. The defeat last time out saw the Swans drop back into the danger zone, although the Welsh side are only in the drop zone on goal difference.

The home side have recorded three consecutive victories on home soil in the Premier League. However, the Swans have won just four of their last ten home games in the league, so they do not have a great long-term home record.

Their recent home games have been low scoring in the top-flight, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five league games.

West Ham have been dragged back into the relegation battle in recent games after a run of just one league win in their last five games. Last time out, the Irons suffered a 4-1 defeat against Liverpool.

The defeat coupled with results elsewhere leaves David Moyes team just three points above the relegation zone. A win in this clash could move the visitors well away from the drop zone, though.

The visitor’s away record in the Premier League is a mixed one, as the Irons have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six away games in the English top-flight. Their recent away games in the league have been high scoring, with six of their last eight games producing over 2.5 goals.

Forebet predicts that this game will finish in a low scoring draw, which will do neither team any favours in the fight for survival.
