CSKA Moscow and Red Star Belgrade set for another stalemate

CSKA Moscow and Red Star Belgrade set for another stalemate

The Europa League has reached the last-32 stage and the first tie that will be settled will be between CKSA Moscow and Red Star Belgrade (FK Crvena Zvezda), as the pair clash on Wednesday night in their second leg.

The first leg produced an uneventful goalless draw and this game could be just as tight, with both sides hopeful of going through to the last 16 of the competition.

CSKA Moscow will be favourites to go through. However, the Russia side won just one of their six games in the group stages. In fact, CSKA have won just two of their last eight games in the Europa League. Their recent Europa League games have also been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last European outings.

The Russian side have failed to win in their last three home games in the Europa League, drawing once and losing twice. However, prior to that poor home run, CSKA had recorded nine straight home wins in this competition.

Red Star heads into this game on the back of a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions. The Serbian side finished second in a group that involved Premier League side Arsenal.

The visitors are currently top of their domestic league and look set to claim the title this season. Their European results have not been terrible, either. The visitors have lost just one of their last eight games in this competition.

However, they did draw four of their six group games to qualify for this stage, including three of their last four games. Incredibly, all six of Red Star’s group games produced under 2.5 goals.

The visitors do not have a great away record in the Europa League, winning just two of their last 12 games on their travels in the competition. However, they have also lost just one of their last seven away games in the competition too.

Forebet predicts that game will end in a low scoring draw, which will see the visitors go through to the next round courtesy of an away goal.
