On Sunday afternoon, relegation-threatened Southampton host Liverpool at St Marys, in a game that could prove vital at both ends of the Premier League table.

Southampton are currently in the thick of the battle for top-flight survival. In fact, the Saints are just two points above the relegation zone. A 3-2 win at fellow strugglers West Brom last time out ended a 12-game winless run in the Premier League for the home side.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s side had drawn their previous three league games prior to their trip to the Hawthorns, so are now unbeaten in four league games in the English top-flight. Both teams have scored in Southampton’s last five Premier League games.

The Saints have failed to win in their last six home games in the top-flight, although they have drawn four of those six games at St Marys. Both teams have also scored in their last seven league outings on home soil.

Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League table but are just two points clear of fifth-place Tottenham, who can leapfrog the Merseysiders with a win in the north London derby on Saturday lunchtime.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head into this game on the back of a 2-2 home draw with Spurs last time out. The Reds recent Premier League games have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine games. Liverpool scoring two or more goals in eight of those nine games have proven a big factor in those high scoring games.

The visitors have a good recent away record in the Premier League, winning six of their last eight games on their travels in the top-flight, while also scoring two or more goals in seven of their last eight away games.

Forebet predicts that Liverpool will record a victory on the south coast in a low scoring encounter.
