Athletic to add to Las Palmas’ woes in La Liga

On Friday night, Athletic Bilbao host Las Palmas at San Mames in La Liga, as the home side attempt to move up the table.

Athletic have experienced mixed fortunes so far this season and are currently 13th place in the Spanish top-flight table. The Basque side heads into this clash on the back of a four-game winless run in La Liga.

However, three of those winless games have finished in draws. In fact, a 2-0 defeat at Girona last time out ended a ten-game unbeaten run in the top-flight for the home side.

Jose Angel Ziganda’s team have a habit of drawing games in La Liga, as only Levante have drawn more games than Athletic this season in the Spanish top-flight. Their recent games have also been low scoring affairs, with seven of their last nine league games producing under 2.5 goals.

Athletic have won just one of their last six La Liga games at San Mames, although four of those six games unsurprisingly have finished all square.

Las Palmas have experienced a slight upturn in fortunes of late, as the Islanders have won two of their last three games in La Liga. The victories mean they are now just three points from safety in the Spanish top-flight.

However, Las Palmas need their recent upturn to continue, as a record of just three wins in their previous 18 La Liga outings has left them in the relegation zone.

One of the major contributing factors to Las Palmas’ current league position is their away form, as the visitors have won just one of their last 29 games on their travels in La Liga. They have also lost 16 of their last 18 away games in the league, including their last four.

Forebet predicts that Athletic will halt the visitor’s recent upturn in form and record a narrow win at San Mames.
