Vitesse to consolidate Europa League play-off spot
On Friday night, Vitesse Arnhem host Groningen at the GelreDome in the Eredivisie, as the home side look to consolidate their spot in the Europa League play-off spots.
Vitesse’s form has been inconsistent of late in the Eredivisie. They currently sit sixth-place in the Dutch top-flight, five points behind fifth-place PEC Zwolle and four points ahead of eighth-place Heerenveen.
Last time out Henk Fraser’s side recorded a 2-1 win at rivals PEC Zwolle. The game was Vitesse’s fifth out of the last six games in the Eredivisie that saw both sides score.
The home sides form on home soil has not been great of late, as they have won just one their last eight home games in the Eredivisie. However, five of those eight games have finished in draws. They are also unbeaten in four games on home soil in the Eredivisie.
Groningen are experiencing a mixed Eredivisie campaign and currently lie 13th in the Dutch top-flight table, six points clear of the relegation play-off spots.
One win in their last six league games has contributed to the visitors slipping down the table. However, they have drawn four of their last six league games, including last time out, when they drew 3-3 against Heracles.
The visitor’s recent games in the Eredivisie have been high scoring with six of their last nine league matches producing over 2.5 goals.
Groningen have won just one of their last ten away games in the Eredivisie, suffering seven defeats in the process. Incredibly, the visitors have also conceded at least two goals in 11 of their last 13 games on their travels in the Dutch top-flight. They have also won just one of their last six meetings with Vitesse.
