Bristol City and QPR to finish all square

Bristol City host Queens Park Rangers in a Championship clash on Saturday in a match the Robins must win to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Bristol City are winless in their last six matches in all competitions. That run of form includes losing twice to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup. The Robins were eliminated from the competition this week in the semifinal stage. However, Lee Johnson's team put a lot into its attempts to win the EFL Cup, and it has hurt the side's league form.

Bristol City did manage a nil-nil draw against Derby in their last Championship match. But the Robins have not played well against QPR in recent years. Bristol have won once in six meetings with QPR. That one win came last season as the Robins picked up a 2-1 win at home.

Things haven't been much better for QPR when playing against Bristol City. The Hoops have won twice in six meetings dating back to 2011. The sides have played out three draws, including a 1-1 affair earlier this term at Loftus Road.

QPR currently sit in 16th place in the Championship. The Hoops biggest problem in 2017-18 has been consistency. Just eight wins have been secured by QPR. Goals have been hard to come by as well as Matt Smith leads the side in goals with just six. The lack of goals scored by the team has kept it from pushing away from the bottom end of the table. Meanwhile, QPR's defence has given up the sixth most goals in the Championship. Goalkeeper Alex Smithies has received little help from QPR's defenders. In addition, Ian Holloway's preference for a back three has allowed opponents to score freely at times.

Despite Bristol City's recent run of form since New Year's Day, the Robins are still one of the best teams in the league. Currently in fifth place, Bristol City could fall out of the top six if the teams below them pick up maximum points. Just six points separate Bristol City with 11th place Preston North End. The Championship is a difficult league and the Robins could find themselves midtable if they don't begin winning again soon.

Bristol City's Bobby Reid leads the team in goals this term with 12. Reid has recorded 30% of Bristol City's goals. The 24-year-old hasn't scored in his last three Championship matches, however. In fact, Bristol City have been held without a goal in their last three league games. It seems the goals have dried up despite the team scoring 40 already this term.

QPR don't score a lot of goals, but Bristol City aren't scoring either at the moment. The two sides should come away with a share of the points on Saturday.
