On Friday night, Marseille travel to Caen in Ligue One, as the visitors attempt to move into the automatic qualification spots for next season’s Champions League.

Caen are currently mid-table in the French top-flight but are closer to the relegation spots than the four European berths. A 2-0 victory over Bordeaux last time out ended a six-game run without a league win for the home side.

The home side have struggled for goals of late scoring just four times in their last seven league outings. The fact that they have struggled for goals of late has contributed to there being under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five Ligue One outings.

Caen’s recent home record in Ligue One is a mixed one. However, Patrice Garande’s side have won just one of their last five league games on home soil. Their recent home games in the French top-flight have also been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight games.

Marseille can move up to second in the French top-flight table with a victory, as OM currently trail second-place Lyon by just a point.

Rudi Garcia’s team have been in good form of late in Ligue One, having won four of their last five games in the French top-flight. Stretching back a bit further, the visitors have lost just one of their last 16 games in Ligue One.

A key to Marseille’s recent good form has been their effectiveness in front of goal, as they have scored two or more goals in four of their last five league outings. Garcia’s side have lost just one of their last nine games on their travels in Ligue One, recording five wins in the process.

Forebet predicts that the visitors will extend their recent positive run of form by recording a victory in this clash.
