Sporting to add to Vitoria Setubal’s mounting problems

On Friday night, out-of-form Vitoria Setubal host league leaders Sporting Lisbon at the Estadio do Bonfim in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Vitoria Setubal are enduring a difficult season and currently sit second from bottom in the Portuguese top-flight table. A winless run of nine games in the Primeira Liga, including six defeats has contributed to the home side’s position in the table.
Setubal have at least stopped the rot in recent games when it comes to losing, as they have now drawn their last three league games, including last time out at Moreirense. Setubal’s recent league games have offered good entertainment value, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven games in the Primeira Liga.
Setubal’s recent home form has not helped their cause, as they have won just two of their last 12 home games in the Portuguese top-flight. The home side have also failed to win in their last four league games on home soil, suffering three defeats in the process.
Sporting’s form heading into this clash is in complete contrast to the home side. The team from the Portuguese capital are currently top of the Primeira Liga, having won six of their last seven games in the Portuguese top-flight.
Jorge Jesus’ team have been highly prolific of late in the league, scoring two or more goals in six of their last eight outings in the Primeira Liga. Sporting have also kept clean sheets in three of their last four games in the league.
Sporting have a good recent away record in the league, losing just one of their last 15 games on their travels. There is some hope for the home side, though, as the visitors have drawn two of their last five league games on the road.
