On Saturday afternoon, Newcastle host Swansea at St James Park in a potentially crucial game at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Newcastle’s recent form in the Premier League has been highly inconsistent and is illustrated in their recent numbers, as the Magpies have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five league outings.

The inconsistent run of form of late in the top-flight means that the Magpies are positioned in 13th place in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Rafa Benitez’s side are by no means out of the relegation dogfight.

One of the north east sides recent problems has been their Premier League results at St James Park. The Magpies have failed to win in their last six home outings in the top-flight.

In fact, a goalless draw in their last home game in the league against Brighton ended a five-game losing streak on home soil for Benitez’s side. A major factor in their recent home struggles has been a lack of goals, as the Magpies have scored just twice in their last six home league games.

Swansea find themselves in even deeper trouble than Newcastle, as the Welsh side are currently bottom of the table, four points away from safety.

Two Premier League wins in their last 14 games are a major factor in the visitor’s league position. A big problem for the Welsh side in recent weeks has been conceding goals, as they have conceded two or more goals in four of their last six league outings.

Swansea have also won just one of their last nine away games in the Premier League. However, that win was a 2-1 victory at Watford in their last away game in the Premier League. The victory ended a seven-game losing streak for the Swans on the road in the top-flight.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle will record a narrow victory in a low scoring encounter to improve their position in the top-flight table.
