With Paul Clement relieved of his duties as manager of Swansea City, Carlos Carvalhal took control and immediately led the club to a crucial win at Watford.

Swansea City fans will be hoping this is the first of many victories under the Portuguese boss but despite the victory, they started 2018 sitting bottom of the Premier League table and have a very difficult few months ahead of them, starting with a home match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Trends show Swansea City have won only one of their last five Premier League games and two of the last fourteen in all competitions.  It was this poor record which saw Clement lose his job at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City have won just four of their twenty-two matches in the league this season and only West Bromwich Albion have a worse record.  However, while West Bromwich Albion have struggled to win games, Swansea City have suffered more defeats than any other team in the Premier League, thirteen in total.

Having said that, the Swans have picked up some points at home recently, including draws with Bournemouth and Crystal Palace and a win over West Bromwich Albion.

The problem for Swansea City has been scoring goals and trend show they have managed just 2 goals in their last five home Premier League games.

Tottenham Hotspur travel to South Wales having defeated Southampton 5-2 at Wembley in their last match which was on Boxing Day. That victory means Tottenham Hotspur have won four of their last five Premier League games.

There have been wins over Stoke City, Brighton and Southampton at home and an excellent 3-0 win at Burnley.  The only defeat in those five games was the 4-1 loss at runaway league leaders Manchester City.

However, trends show Tottenham Hotspur have not had things all their own away on the road in the Premier League this season and the win over Burnley is their only win away from home from their last six attempts.

There have been defeats at Manchester United, Arsenal, Leicester City, Manchester City and a 1-1 draw at Watford.

Team news and Swansea City will be without the suspended Kyle Naughton and Angel Rangel should start at right-back.  There are doubts over the fitness of Kyle Bartley, Wilfried Bony and Ki Sung-yueng.

Tottenham Hotspur travel without Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama.  Mousa Dembele and Harry Kane are struggling for fitness although the latter is expected to start the match having suffered from illness.

Swansea City will be buoyed by their win at Watford but Tottenham Hotspur present a different challenge and Swansea City will struggle to break down the visitors’ defence.  An away win is on the cards here.
