AC Milan were once the giants of Italian and European football with a team of superstars to envy.  However, despite serious investment over the summer, they have not been able to recreate their great teams of the past two decades and this has seen Vincenzo Montella lose his job.

This weekend, AC Milan make the trip to bottom of the table Benevento.  With Gennaro Gattuso taking control of the team, anything but a win from this game would be a huge embarrassment to the club.

Having won promotion from Serie B last season, Benevento fans would have been looking forward to games like this.  However, they could not have wished for a worse start to their campaign in the top-flight as they sit bottom without a single point to their name.

What should have been a fairy tale season for the club has rapidly descended into a nightmare and they are desperate to pick up a point, from anywhere.

Trends show Benevento have lost each of their fourteen Serie A games this season and are on a run of seven straight consecutive home defeats in the league.

They have failed to keep a single clean sheet, giving them the worst defensive record in Serie A and have only managed to score 6 goals, with is half the number of Hellas Verona who sit one place above them in the table.

To take anything from this game would be a huge result for Benevento and will not save them from relegation but will give them something to cheer.

For the visitors, this is a match which leaves them in a no-win situation.  Win the game and it was what was expected of them, with little praise coming their way.  However, lose the match and it will be one of the biggest disappointments in AC Milan’s history.

Trends show AC Milan have won one of their last four games in Serie A which was a 2-0 win at Sassuolo. That win followed an away win at Chievo Verona but represent AC Milan’s only away victories in their last six league games.

While AC Milan have scored goals in each of their last four away league games they have been struggling to keep clean sheets and have just one to their name from their last six attempts.  AC Milan have conceded 14 goals in 8 away Serie A games this season.

Team News and Benevento are without Pietro Iemmello and Achraf Lazaar who are injured.  Fabio Lucioni is unavailable due to suspension.

AC Milan make the trip without the injured Andrea Conti but Gattuso has every other player available for selection.

AC Milan are on a hiding to nothing in this game but have the quality to overcome a team who are much lower on confidence than themselves.  We should see goals in this match with AC Milan leaving with maximum points.
