On Saturday afternoon, Atletico Madrid host Villarreal at the Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga, as the home side look to make up ground on leaders Barcelona at the top of the table.

Atletico have started their La Liga campaign with an unbeaten run of nine games. However, Diego Simeone’s team have won five and drew four of their league games this season.

Los Rojiblancos have however won just one of their last six games in all competitions. Their recent games in La Liga have been tight low scoring affairs, as six of their last seven outings have produced under 2.5 goals.

Atletico are formidable on home soil, as the men from Madrid have lost just three of their last 38 home games in the league. Atletico’s defensive record at home in the Spanish top-flight is very strong, as they have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven games.

Following a poor start to their La Liga campaign, Villarreal have hit form of late. The Yellow Submarine are currently sixth in the table and would move level on points with the home side with a victory in Madrid.

Villarreal have suffered just one defeat in their last seven league games, having recorded five wins in the process.  Javi Calleja’s team have also won their last three games in La Liga, having scored nine times.

In contrast to Atletico, Villarreal’s recent La Liga games have been high scoring with over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight games.

Villarreal’s away record in La Liga is a mixed one, as they have won three and lost three of their last six games on their travels in the Spanish top-flight.

This game could be a fascinating one, as both teams are in decent form. However, Forebet predicts that Atletico Madrid will come out on top in this clash.
