In one of the games of the European football weekend, Atletico Madrid host La Liga leaders Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The home side are yet to suffer defeat in La Liga this season. However, three of their seven league games have finished in draws, which has meant Diego Simeone’s side have lost ground on early season pacesetters Barcelona at the top of the table.

Despite those early season draws hampering Atletico’s league campaign so far, the men from Madrid could move to within three points of the visitors in the table with a victory.

The trends and recent history suggest that a home win is unlikely, as Los Rojiblancos have beaten Barcelona in just one of their last 13 meetings in all competitions. To make matters worse, the home side have suffered nine defeats in the process.

Simeone’s side heads into this big clash on the back of a lacklustre 0-0 draw at Leganes last time out in La Liga, so not exactly great preparation for a game against the in-form visitors.

Barcelona are in hot form right now. The visitors have won all seven of their La Liga games this season and won their last nine games in all competitions.

The summer exit of Brazilian superstar Neymar has not harmed the visitors attacking prowess, as they have scored at least twice in eight of their last nine competitive outings.

Last time out in La Liga, Ernesto Valverde’s team recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Las Palmas. The game saw the visitors keep a third straight clean sheet in all competitions, which shows they do not rely on firepower alone to win games.

The league leader’s form on their travels has also been good of late, as they have now won their last six away games in La Liga, scoring at least twice in all six wins.

This game is set to be tight. However, Forebet predicts Valverde’s side will continue their winning run in La Liga and consign Atletico to their first league defeat of the season.
