On Thursday night, French Ligue One outfit Lyon host Italian side Atalanta at the Groupama Stadium in the Europa League.
Lyon are currently seventh place in Ligue One after an inconsistent start to their Ligue One campaign. The French side also opened their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Cypriot side Apollon on matchday one.
Despite that relatively disappointing result in their European opener, OL have a good recent record in the Europa League, winning seven of their last ten games in the competition. They have also suffered just two defeats in that run of games, both of which were in away games.
Lyon’s record on home soil in the Europa League is also impressive, as they have suffered just two defeats in their last 16 games. The French side have also won five of their last six home games in the Europa League.
This clash will be the first between these two sides in European competition. The home side will be keen to mark the occasion with a victory.
Like their opponents, Atalanta have enjoyed a mixed start to their domestic campaign and currently sit ninth in the Serie A table. However, the Italian side recorded a very impressive 3-0 victory over big-spending Premier League Everton on matchday one.
The win means that Gian Piero Gasperini’s side actually tops the very open group. This game could be far more of a challenge than last time out though.
The visitors do have a decent recent away record in all competitions, though, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last nine games on the road. A trip to France represents a threat to that good away record.
These two teams will be hard to separate and Forebet predicts that the game will end all square and Atalanta will maintain top spot in the group.
